The above artists were the original members of the "Heartland Painters" as named by William Struve in the early 1980s. They showed at the Struve Gallery for many years and were included in several important exhibitions, including: In A New Light, Three Views of the Heartland, State of Illinois Art Gallery, Chicago and Illinois State Museum, Springfield 1987-1988.

Harold Gregor is a often called the "dean of the Heartland Painters" as he taught many of them.

Gil Beamsley follows in this tradition.
